THE COMPLETE JOWETT HISTORY

Few car makers were as eccentric or individual in their designs as Bradford-based Jowett. The company fortune was based on war time engineering work and the most utilitarian of devices, among them the extraordinarily tough two cylinder light cars and vans with solid tyres and steel wheels. All of which suited the maker's blacksmithing background perfectly!

At their zenith in the early postwar years , the company produced the classic BRADFORD delivery van which was exported worldwide along with the advanced Jupiter sportscar and the Javelin saloon , sharing the same flat 4 engine as it's 2 seater sibling.

The Jupitar was raced widely including at Le Mans and the TT and enjoyed success in rallying during the early 50s the company finances were in crisis and it ceased car production in the mid 1950s.

Clark & Nankivell's names grace the cover but the book was in fact the combined effort of siz Jowett car club members who pooled their knowledge the trace the whole story, illustrated with with a wealth of factory, prototype, technical and competition photos along with first hand accounts from those involved.

Produced in 1991 this 224 page book is, as far as we are aware, the only one that covers the marque in depth ( a slim 12 page PROFILE PUBLICATION covers the Jupiter) .

The boiok in stock has a little wear at the spine and a small repair but is otherwise in very good condition and surprisingly rare nowadays.

Roland - The 'Works Van'

This is our Ford Popular 100E - or "Roland" as he's known . He's the 'works van' and runs to and from the Post Office delivering parcels on a daily basis and at a sedate speed..

Roland is a 1960 1172cc side valve model with three speed gearbox and , because he's the De Luxe model has the luxury of a heater ...

He gets quite a lot of miles under his wheels each week and so needs the occasional bit of time off for repairing and restoration - if anyone his any reasonably priced spare parts or tune up bits (Aquaplane would be nice, a Ford V8 side valve would be nicer....) just let us know !
