This is at Silverstone prior to the 1951 British GP - the very first world championship Grand Prix that Ferrari ever won!
This is a practice photo because there's no crowd in the background and Gonzalez is wearing only a cloth helmet. The rules in 1951 dictated the wearing of a proper hard-hat type crash helmet in the races...but not in practice!
During this event Gonzalez lapped Silverstone at over 100mph average speed for the first time, then won the event the following day after an epic battle with the Alfa Romeo of champion-elect Juan Manual Fangio.
