Lovely action shot of Luigi Villoresi at speed in his 4.5 litre V12 Ferrari 375 in practice at Silverstone prior to the 1951 British GP - the very first world championship Grand Prix that Ferrari ever won (team mate Gonzelez!)

This is a practice photo because there's no crowd in the background and the driver wears only a cloth helmet - by 1951 a proper crash helmet was require...but only in the race itself

!During this event Gonzalez lapped Silverstone at over 100mph average speed for the first time, then won the event the following day after an epic battle with the Alfa Romeo of champion-elect Juan Manual Fangio. Villoresi qualified on the second row of the grid and finished 3rd.
