Lovely action shot of Maurice Trintignant at speed in his tiny F2 Gordini at the 1951 Silverstone Daily Express Trophy race - which was famous for the Thinwall Special Ferrari of Reg Parnell winning over the all conquoring Alfa Romeos 159s of Fangio and Farina!
During this event the heavens opened and a torrential hail storn turned the track into a lake. The Alfas suffered because their superchargers swallowed a lot of water and after 6 laps the chequered flag was held out as cars spun in all directions! Through the melle Parnell kept his head and kept the car on track and was declared the winner.
Trintigant , in a car less than half the size of the Ferrari, finished 6th and like all but two drivers was already a lap down...after 6 laps!
