Delightful look at how it was at Downton Abbey and other such noble houses as well as in higher social circles accross the globe... although the chauffer in the TV series married the youngest daughter of his lordship...so maybe not! The Chauffeur in the earliest days was often recruited from the ranks of eager, enterprising and smart young footman who could relish the enhancement of their status and thus consider he had the pick of the parlour maids (according to my own grandmother who was a maid at the time!) . Very enjoyable read. 177 pages, well read, front fly leaf has been removed( probably as it had a birthday or christmas message) but otherwise good condition book and very good jacket.
