Unusual and very attractive new title based on the motor racing autograph book that artist Martin Tomlinson carried around with him at numerous race meetings through the 1950-70s and the works it led him to produce. Veteran motor sport commentator Andrew Marriott describes the relevant drivers (an eclectic mix with Fangio, Clark, Hill and Hawthorn alongside privateers like Bruce Halford and those who were lost too soon like Chis Bristow), the artist's memory of meeting them on the day in question and a piece of artwork they inspired. Some are pencil sketches others are full colour paintings, and these are complimented by images of relative race programmes, tickets, snapshots and other memorabilia that pepper the pages and create a genuinely appealing book you can dip in and out of for hours.
Tomlinson's style is crisp and accurate, often with that dynamic 'standing in the middle of the track' point of view that makes you feel like you will need to take a rapid step back any second. The truly outstanding example of the full page colour renderings features Jim Clark at speed in his 1967 Lotus 49 during his epic recovery drive in the 1967 Italian GP.
