Action photo of Jo Bonnier's privateer Lotus 49 at speed in the German GP. This car very rarely appears in books or magazines - by 1969 Jo was a back marker and normally well out of the results. He only raced the car in Germany and at the Oulton Park Gold Cup a few weeks later. His newly delivered 49 (R8) was famously 'borrowed back' by the factory Team Lotus boys at the British GP when lead driver's Rindt and Hill refused to race the very slow 4WD Type 63 that had been entered for them... Only one factory team 49 was race ready so Bonnier's car was quickly re-liveried and given to Hill for race day, then returned afterwards. Jo raced the 4wd...
