Set of six colour photos of the factory-entered Lotus Esprit 300 Turbo GTR race cars that ran in the 1995 BPR GT series with Alex Zanardi and Alex Portman as the drivers.
This GT2 car scored some exceptional results, especially at Silverstone where it was leading in the very wet middle section of the race, thrashing much more powerful McLaren GTRs and Ferrari F40s.
The first two shots are from Donington Park and the rest from Silverstone. This car revived the career of ex Lotus F1 driver Zanardi who had recovered from a huge accident and been sidelined by the cash-strapped F1 team. The GT drive got him noticed again and lef to Indycar drived with Target Ganassi which ultimately saw Alex as the series winner and a mega star. Sadly a brief and unsuccessful spell back in F1 with the uncompetetive Williams led to a return to CART racing and a massive accident that cost him both legs. His recovery and continued racing in touring cars has been one of the most heartening stories in sport in the past decade.
The Esprit 300 was re-engined into the V8 Turbo for 1996 and became a regular front runner.
