The Isle of man's famous racing history included a lot of 4 wheeled action oiver the years and from 1904 to 1922 there was a car TT race which attarcted the factory Grand Prix teams of Sunbeam, Vauhall etc. Even Rosls Royce won on one ocassion! Racing resumed from 1933 to 1937 on street circuits through Douglas and Onchan with entried inclyding a great many ERAs, Bugattis, MGs and Rileys for the top British names (Mays, Bira, Howe etc) and the od Maserati for the likes of Villoresi. After the war this was revived and between 1947 and 1953 the Willaston Circuit on the outskirts of Douglas was used, based around the motorcycle TT start area on Glencruthery Rd and linking to nearby parts of the motorcycle TT course . Thes events attracted factory Aston Martin, Frazer Nash and other teams like Ecurie Ecosse. A young Stirling Moss raced here as did the likes of Parnell, Wharton and Swiss GP driver Hans Reusch (in a Ferrari)
This book tells the story of these races, the drivers, the cars, the political opposition they faced, and finally fell to.
