Spanish racer Emilio de Vilotta at speed in his privateer McLaren M23 in practice for the 1978 Silverstone Daily Express Trophy F1 race. This was a famous race in which the heavens opened and many front runners including Hunt and Andretti fell off on the first lap!
Vilotta was 12th on the grid but retired after 9 laps with a failed clutch. He entered the car in the 1978 Spanish GP (he was a regular entry betwen 1976-1980 as it was his home event) but failed to qualify for the grid. He also raced in the 1978 Aurora British F1 series with the McLaren and was third in the points with highest finishes of 2nd place at Snetterton and Oulton Park early in the year.
