Two superb black and white photos of Mike Hawthorn, the first English driver to win the Forumula One Grand Prix World Drivers championship, which he achieved in 1958 at the wheel of a Ferrari.
These two candid photos were taken at the 1953 Silverstone Daily Express Trophy event which Ferrari had sent a Tipo 500 single seater and a sports racing car over for Mike to driver in the main race and the support event for sportscars. Both cars visble in the photos.
Hawthorn in trade mark spotted bow tie and tweed jacket is in animated conversation with his Ferrari team mechanics. A nice moment frozen in time, a combination of English sartorial elegance and excitable Italian passion.
