Atmpspheric shot from the 1952 Silverstone British GP event featuring future world F1 champion (1958) Mike Hawthorn sat in his famous Cooper-Bristol (11) The car that he raced with such style in Grands Prix during the season that Ferrari signed him up as a team driver in 1953.

In this shot the car is being tickered with on the pit apron during practice with, I am fairly sure, Hawthorn's supportive father Leslie on the far right almost hidden. The figure closest to camera could be the famous mechanic Brit Pearce.

In the background the Silverstone circuit is devoid of spectators and you can see the famous scaffold stands (familiar to fans even into the late 90s...) earth banks that kept the cars out of the crowds and the loud speakers. On the right is the tail of Alan Brown's Cooper Bristol.
