10x8 inch(250x200mm) photo of the NAPIER RAILTON MOBIL SPECIAL land speed record car posed outside the Thompson & Taylor's workshops at Brooklands track in England in 1937 .
The workforce that had just built it are in the pbackground along with John Cobb who towers above most of them.
John Cobb took several land speed records in the car over the next ten years at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah and became the first man to be timed at over 400mph on land and set a record not broken untill 1964! The twin Napier Lion powered 4 wheel drive car featured ground breaking aerodynmaics that do not look out of place today. The Ried Railton design remains one of the all time high points in automotive engineering and influenced more or less everything that came after it.
