Wright posed astride the amazing looking OEC Temple JAP racing motorcycle.
This is the bike on which broke the motorcycle land speed record in 1930 at 150.73mph on the Carrigrohane straight on the outskirts of Cork in Ireland.
The bike was built by Claude Temple who had himself already broken the speed record for motorcycles in the late 1920s . It featured a supercharged 998cc V Twin JAP engine and front forks to the OEC patented design (which as you can see didn't exactly find many followers in later years!) but there was a controversy at the time in which it's claimed this bike had in fact broken it's engine on the first run and the record run was actually made on the back up Zenith-JAP ... but Zenith motorcycles were, at the time, out of production, unlike OEC. With the Olyimpia Motorcycle show looming a few days later it is said the record was claimed for OEC as they would at least derive suitable PR value from it! No one seems to be sure...quite a bike though! Later on it apparently ended up fitted with an Austin 7 engine and has since been restored to it's awesome original specification.
