This is the story of the Motor Racing Track that was built within the famous
Grand National Horse Racing Venue and thus immediately benefited from
the Grandstands and hospitality facilities, Car Parks, turnstiles, toilets.
It was a very clever idea at producing a race track at minimum cost and
well located close to Liverpool. The only concession being that the track shape was dictated by the horse racing course, but that was no bad thing and the finished result gave a good challenge to both cars and drivers and good vantage
areas to the spectators. The venue opened in 1954 and we enjoyed some great
racing at the highest level with Stirling Moss gaining his first Grand Prix victory
in his Mercedes, pipping team leader Fangio in the process.
For several years the British Grand Prix would alternate between Silverstone
and Aintree until the owners tired of the whole thing - one assumes it was not paying
as well as forcast -  and  closed the full length track leaving a short club circuit that
struggled on into the early eighties before actual racing stopped and leaving it as just a venue for sprints and motorcycles today.
As new condition with tight binding, appears never-opened. . Laminated pictorial Coverboards. 196 pages. Lovely book.
