New , privately published softback book covering the history of the major international GOLD CUP event at Oulton Park circuit in northern England 1954-74.
For most of this time the Gold Cup was a non-championship Formula One race that boasted entries from the major F1 teams of the day like Lotus, Cooper, Brabham,  BRM, Ferrari, Tyrrell, Matra, McLaren and Surtees. Most of the big names raced there : Moss, Clark, Hill, Stewart, Amon, Ireland, Surtees, Hawthorn, Musso, Salvadori, Brabham, Ickx, Rindt etc etc and the supporting races for saloon cars, sports cars and smaller single seaters often featured the same big names ! Gurney in a Ford Galaxy, Graham Hill in a Lotus Cortina, Jack Brabham in a Mustang ... you really DON'T get this quality of motor race meeting today. Anywhere!
Several of the races were run to F2, invariably with Grand Prix drivers at the wheel and later to F5000 with the likes of Peter Gethin, Teddy Pilette and Ian Ashley hurling 500bhp Lolas and Chevrons around the picturesque Cheshire circuit.  The era came to an end in 1974 with rule changes that altered how motor racing in Britain was run and while the event continued it only occasionally boasted the quality of drivers and cars that had been commonplace in it's heyday.
Author Mike Allen witnessed many of these events first hand and has spent years collecting photos and information - you'll even find quite a number of our photos included in the 270 pages.
If you enjoyed the book FORGOTTEN RACES then this is one is for you!
