The author, the famous WB of MOTOR SPORTmagazine fame recounts the early story of the record up to the near 400mph mark set by John Cobb in the late 1940s - which stood untill the jet age in 1963/4... Nice concise history wioth sdome lovely early photos of these wonderful beastes in action : the Bluebirds, Sunbeams, Fiats, the Golden Arrow etc with driver the calibre of Sir Malcolm Campbell, Sir Henry Segrave, John Cobb, Parry Thomas, E A D Eldridge , Ray Keech and George Eyston who contributes the foreword to the book. 30 large pages hardback edition in the MRP series that also gave us the BENTLEY'S and LE MANS and the AUSTIN RACING HISTORY at the same time. Much less common than the small book club edition published years later . Very good book with very good jacket (rare) that has a minor rip up from the lower front edge and some staining at the top back/spine area (see photos)
