Traffic is unusually sparse on the A38 south of Exeter. I'm looking down on it from a small agricultural flyover bridge  and wondering how much longer we'll be sat in a queue of cars that stretches across it's entire span, and then some, and hasn't...

Our fourth attempt at an event that predates almost every other motor sport contest on earth - running for the first time way back in 1904, The Edinburgh always seems to combine joy and frustration... and it did this time too!

Up ahead, looking down on us from the  banks on either side of the road  is a small gathering of spectators, and someone with a yellow flag indicating for us to halt. It's late afternoon in early September and this is the last ‘stop-and-restart’...
